MTV Europe Music Awards 2008

MTV Europe Music Awards 2008

US singer Beyonce performs during the award ceremony of the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) in Liverpool, United Kingdom, 06 November 2008. Artists in eight categories will be voted for via internet. Among others, the best male and female singer and the best group will be honoured. Some participating countries also give awards to national artists.

Beyonce Knowles surprised me with her choice of designer for tonight's MTV EMAs. She wore two Gareth Pugh dresses for the event proving that the young British designers items are truly wearable. For the red carpet she opted for a dress from Pugh's Spring line. When Beyonce took to the stage she was wearing a grey industrial dress also by Pugh but from his Autumn '08 collection. I'm really impressed by her fearless approach to Pugh's designs and she is definitely pulling off. Now all we have to do is decide which of his designs suited her best?

Beyonce to perform at MTV Music Awards

Beyoncé Knowles will get top billing

Beyoncé Knowles will be the headline act at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards – the first to held in Britain for five years.

The former Destiny’s Child star will be making her third appearance at the awards when she rocks the Liverpool event on November 6.

The 27-year-old’s top billing was announced as nominees were revealed and online voting was opened for seven of the 11 categories.

Speculation mounted that comeback girl Britney Spears might also appear at the ceremony after she was nominated for two awards.

The awards were last held in Britain in 2003 when Edinburgh hosted the glamorous event.
This year’s bash will coincide with Liverpool’s stint as the European Capital of Culture and organisers have promised performances from ‘the biggest names in music’ as well as breakthrough artists.

Spears’s record Blackout has been nominated for album of the year and she is also in the running for act of the year.

Standing in her way will be Welsh debutant Duffy, together with Rockferry and Coldplay – who have received multiple nominations.

Other big names tipped to win gongs include Metallica, Miley Cyrus, Amy Winehouse and US chart conqueror Leona Lewis. Online voting was launched yesterday while the remaining four category nominations will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

This year, Metro is excited to be an official voting partner for the event at the Liverpool Echo Arena so fans should log on to pick acts at.
